You must be a citizen of the United States and, by the date of the next election,
at least 18 years old and a resident of New Jersey, and your county, for at least 30 days.


How do I register to vote?

You can register to vote at the Sussex County Clerk’s office or by mail. Voter Registration Forms are available at the Municipal Clerk’s office, or can be downloaded from the Sussex County Clerk’s website.

To register in New Jersey you must be:

  • A United States citizen
  • at least 17 years old, and understand that I may not vote until reaching the age of 18.
  • A resident of Sussex county for 30 days before the election
  • NOT currently serving a sentence, probation or parole because of a felony conviction

You must complete a Voter Registration Application and/or Party Affiliation Form and submit to. 

How do I find out where to vote?
 

The sample ballot that registered voters receive in the mail contains all polling information. The polling place for all districts is the Fredon Civic Center at 436 Route 94.

How do I get an absentee ballot?
 

The Municipal Clerk’s office can provide you with an absentee ballot application which you mail to the Sussex County Clerk’s office. The application must be received by the Sussex County Clerk at least seven days prior to the election if mailed or by 3:00pm on the day prior to the election if you appear in person at the Sussex County Clerk’s office.

What is the deadline to register to vote in an upcoming election?
 

Voter registration deadline is 21 days prior to an election. Voters may register after the deadline, but will not be eligible to vote in the election immediately forthcoming.

How do I declare or change my party affiliation?
 

The application must be received by the Sussex County Clerk’s office fifty-five (55) days prior to the Primary Election. If you sign a primary petition than you will be designated as that party.
