When is a Zoning Permit Required?

A zoning permit is required prior to the construction of new homes, additions, renovations, decks, sheds, swimming pools (above ground and in ground), accessory structures, fences, change of use, and any other structures or improvements which may be required in accordance with the municipal code. The property owner shall be asked to submit an Application for Zoning Permit to the Zoning Official so the project can be reviewed for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance. Application for Zoning Permit is available at the municipal office during regular business hours.

The Township of Fredon has multiple zoning districts, each with its own minimum lot area, front, side and rear yard setbacks, maximum height and maximum building coverage requirements. The Schedule of Zoning Requirements and the Zoning Map should be reviewed to determine what zone your property is located and which zoning requirements pertain to your project.
