Lodestar Park

Dogs Must Be Leashed

It has been brought to our attention through numerous complaints that many dog owners are allowing their dogs in Lodestar Park unleashed.   Fredon Township Ordinances state that no dog is permitted to run at large (off leash) in any public place.  This creates an uncomfortable, frightening and potentially hazardous situation for other park goers, those with dogs and those without.

It is NOT acceptable to say, “My dog is trained” or “My dog is friendly, likes other dogs and people” or “My dog is so tiny”.   This law applies to EVERYONE in all areas of municipally owned lands.

It takes a cooperative effort to make the park safe and comfortable for everyone, so please be aware of your surroundings and considerate of others.  This is for both the safety of your dog and the safety of others enjoying the park.

Effective immediately the Fredon Township Animal Control Officer will be patrolling the park.  Any person found to be in violation of the Township of Fredon Ordinances regarding dogs in Lodestar Park will be provided with a written warning citing the offense, date and time for the first offense.  Subsequent offenses may result in a Notice of violation, fines and possible summons to appear in court.  Fines for violating the leash law are the following: 1st Offense - $50.00.  2nd Offense - $100.00.  3rd Offense - $250.00.

Lodestar Park has been friendly to dogs and those responsible for the park recognize that it is a great place to walk you dog.  However, Lodestar Park is not a “dog park”, rather a park where dogs can be with their owners.  Unfortunately, there have been quite a few dog owners who disregard the park’s regulations and posted signs.  This disregard for the regulations puts the existing policy at risk.  If the current policy of permitting dogs in Lodestar Park is to continue, the regulations must be followed by everyone.  While many may feel their dog is the exception to the rule, none are.
