FREDON TOWNSHIP RECREATION COMMISSION

MINUTES – SEPTEMBER 18, 2019

This meeting is in compliance with the Open Public Meeting Act, Public Law 1975, Chapter 231, Sections 4 and 13 as advertised by public notice.

This meeting of the Fredon Recreation Committee was called to order by Chairman Olsen at 7:13pm.

SALUTE TO THE FLAG

ROLL CALL –       Arne Olsen, David Fontanez, Chris Patterman, Bob Wilson, and Gail Kinney.

ABSENT -             Township Liason & Kristie Olsen.

Mr. Wilson motioned to approve the minutes from August 21, 2019, Mr.

Fontanez seconded.

CORRESPONDENCE

  • Keys received and distributed to members for the civic center.

DISCUSSION ITEMS

  • Murch Fundraiser Dinner
    • Working in conjunction with Fredon Fire Dept. Arne will ask Pete for 50/50 tickets.  The flyer for school will indicate it’s not a school sponsored event.
    • Discussion about shared food cost, Kohls cares program with volunteers and a $500 donation to our fundraiser.  Arne will check with Austin Longhorn to see about the Boy Scouts helping and will ask travel basketball to reschedule practice that night at the Civic Center.
    • All proceeds should be issued in a check to Pam Murch on behalf of the minor daughter. 
    • We will ask for desserts to be donated and Arne to ask Cescos for food donation.
  • Trunk or Treat
    • Kristie needs 200 copies of the flyer are needed for the Fredon Friday folders.
    • Windy Brow to donate - 100 pumpkins, hay bales, 100 apple cider donuts, 10 gal. apple cider, and 2 bins of apples (Liz Patterman has already placed the order).  DPW to pick up the crate of pumpkins and hay on Friday 10/18.  We need 1 table set up for cider, lights are coming the morning of 10/19.  The sound system and extension cords need to be brought from the civic center and put into the kitchen.  Power supply from the press box.
    • Cars participating in the trunk decorating treat portion need to be there by 6:30pm.
    • Virgil Rome has the permit for the bonfire – pallets needed from Lowes, Home Depot (Chris will handle).
    • Chris will get 7 - $20 gift cards from Walmart for the costume contests, pumpkin carving contest (adding 2 new – Best Trunk and Best Family Costume), Parade costume contest - newborn-Prek, 1st-3rd, 4th-6th, 7th & up, Pumpkins should be pre-carved, Judges needed (Fire Dept. members)?
  • Rec Soccer (Arne)
    • The website is up and they are working out the kinks.
    • Close to 70 kids have signed up, we have a U15 team this year which is very exciting and games begin this weekend.   
    • The committee approved the purchase of various soccer equipment needed including - smaller soccer balls, pinnies, first aid kits, cold packs, ball bags, goalie shirts and gloves, updating gear for coaches.

Rec Basketball (David)

    • There are no nets needed at the Civic Center or at Lodestar, at this time.
    • The batting cage purchase is on hold for now – they are very expensive.
    • David made a suggestion that we buy board games and host a monthly Friday family game night.  The committee will discuss this in the future.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Chairman Report:

Park Maintenance: DPW to install gravel in front of pavilion sometime in October.

Soccer – will use the pavilion at all home games from 9am-2pm offering breakfast snacks and drinks.  The first home game is Saturday, September 28th

Red Barn – late in Oct – joint venture

Tennis court – potential of new court – next to basketball court – to be discussed further.

Adding a porta potty to the upper soccer field.  Gail to contact Sue Boland. 

Recreation Website/Social Media

  • Kristie has updated the website with Arne and Gail’s contact information.   All Rec. Committee members have also been updated.
  • Gail is updating FB and Instagram with upcoming events (Trunk or Treat, Spaghetti dinner) an ongoing basis.

Basketball – The insurance is due, Bob will send a check.

Township Liason Report – Not in attendance.

FACILITIES USE APPLICATIONS

  • No requests received for this meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Bryan Bitondo – new applicant for membership.

Mr. Wilson made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Mr. Patterman seconded. Meeting adjourned at 8:44pm.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 16 at 7pm.
