Shape the Future of Our Parks: Join the Fredon Township Recreation Commission

Are you passionate about our local community, active living, and preserving our beautiful outdoor spaces?

Fredon Township is seeking civic-minded residents to step forward and serve on the Board of Recreation Commissioners.

This is not just a volunteer position—it is a vital municipal role with the statutory authority to directly impact the quality of life in our town. If you want a seat at the table to plan, develop, and maintain the public parks and playgrounds that our families enjoy every day, we want to hear from you.

What the Recreation Commission Does

As a member of the Board of Recreation Commissioners, you will operate under the authority of New Jersey State Law (N.J.S.A. 40:12-1 to 40:12-15) to guide the township’s recreational footprint. Key responsibilities include:

  • Master Planning & Improvement: Formulating plans for the development, enhancement, and proper care of current and future public park and playground lands owned by Fredon Township.
  • Park Rules & Regulations: Establishing the guidelines, safety rules, and public use regulations that keep our shared parks welcoming and safe for everyone.
  • Fiscal Planning & Stewardship: Determining the annual funding necessary for park maintenance and improvements. The Commission directly recommends these figures to the Township Committee prior to the annual budget introduction.
  • Financial Independence: Once funds are appropriated by the Township Committee for park and playground operations (excluding land acquisition), the Board holds exclusive authority over how those funds are spent, managing disbursements via official Board warrants.

Why Your Voice Matters

From trail maintenance and playground safety upgrades to long-term park layout planning, the decisions made by the Recreation Commission echo across generations of Fredon residents. We are looking for individuals who bring diverse perspectives—whether your background is in sports coordination, environmental conservation, project management, or simply a deep love for our community spaces.

Please Note: In accordance with municipal guidelines, the Board cannot incur external debt or obligations in the name of the Township without explicit authorization from the Township Committee.
